A Little Bit of Bluewood

Sunny Days at BluewoodPosted by Ski Bluewood (Official Page) on Friday, January 8, 2016

Hung out at Bluewood the day after Christmas with the fianceé and her fam. Of course I decided to take some pictures!

If you don't know or haven't been to Bluewood, check them out! Here's links to their website and their Facebook. As stated on their website, "We are an easy drive from Tri-Cities, Moses Lake, Lewiston, Clarkston, Moscow, Pullman, Walla Walla, Pendleton, Hermiston, Umatilla, Milton-Freewater...and everywhere in between. Load up the car, split the fuel costs and enjoy the beautiful drive into the Blues." As a complete 'newbie' and beginner at skiing, I can say Bluewood is a great place to start. They have rentals available with everything you need and great beginner lessons to get you started. I've done a handful of lessons and I've been constantly impressed with the experience. For those that are more skilled, Bluewood makes for a nice semi-local getaway with it's 400 skiable acres of lift-served terrain.

bluewood snow count

The weather has been a blessing this year allowing Bluewood to currently have a 58" base and 70" summit. Things are going great for Bluewood this year.

I was primarily in the parking lot for these pictures, oops! I was busy learning to ski when on the mountain later on! I did wanted to capture more of the sled they got going on though; it's a pretty awesome idea and service. With the help of a tractor, a friendly driver, and a Vanna White, Bluewood has an awesome sled that travels around the parking lot in the mornings, picking people up to save them from long walks through the parking lot to the lodge. This is especially great if you're lugging a good amount of gear. It's a great welcome gesture! Why take the time and effort to walk through the parking lot with all your gear, when you can go have fun sooner after a short ride on the sled? Pretty awesome! Here's some images!

I want to include here another image I took the week before these last shots. It's an artistic take on a ski lift doing it's thing! It was sure snowing a good amount that day.

"Lift On The Move"

I felt the artist inside of me calling out to me as I saw the lift through the snow storm. I wanted to capture the lift's movement and capture the intense snow fall while creating an overall feel of a piece of art rather than an image. I experimented with various slow shutter speeds and compositions through different focal lengths until I got the effect I was looking for. After a handful of tries, I got this and I'm happy with it!
